The Vespa Gran Sport 160 Mark 1, released in 1962, became the scooter of choice for the young British Mods of that era. This modernist scene sought the latest, most elegant Italian scooter—top of the range from Vespa. It was fast and featured a new type of ignition system that relied on a 6V battery—truly modern luxury.
This particular scooter has its history embedded in the West London mod scene. Originally belonging to a 16-year-old mod, it was equipped with traditional mod extras such as chrome panels and a two-tone paint scheme. We have fully restored it to its original mod format, though the chrome side panel can be added as an extra if desired.
In keeping with the modernist ethos, we upgraded the drivetrain with Retrospective's renowned electric conversion kit—a full conversion to electric power using a 4 kW hub motor. The scooter retains its vintage stylish curves, but now offers much greater speed, reliability, and ease of use.
Features include:
This truly is a modernist scooter, blending classic design with cutting-edge technology.
We pride ourselves on keeping such historic scooters on the road for the future. Our electric conversions help classic Vespa and Lambretta models survive extended ULEZ zones.
